YBI partnership creates new primary care practice for older adults in Mahoning Valley
A new Youngstown Business Incubator partnership was unveiled Tuesday, expected to focus on the health of older adults in the Mahoning Valley.
Heyday Health is a hybrid primary care approach which allows patients to access care through video, phone and chat, along with in-home visits if necessary across Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
All of Heyday Health's patients are paired with a primary care physician, a nurse practitioner and a health ally.
That health ally would be in charge of the patient's treatment plan and communicating with their care team.
Heyday is also partnering with specialists and other organizations who share a focus on delivering quality healthcare, a personalized experience and lower costs to patients and their families.
You must be a patient of Medicare to access this program.
If patients do have issues with accessing virtual care, the program is tied to having family members be a part of the treatment process as well.
"We founded Heyday on the premise that older adults deserve easy access to high quality primary care that focuses on keeping people healthy," said Dr. Nupur Mehta, Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder of Heyday Health.
Mehta said the idea for the program came out of his work as a physician during the coronavirus pandemic when his practice had to shift to virtual care almost overnight and was surprised by the positive feedback he received.
"As a physician, unfortunately I've often seen what happens when people, especially older adults, fall through the cracks of our complicated health system. We founded Heyday Health to provide patient centered healthcare that focuses on keeping people healthy with our team supporting them along the way, " said Mehta.
Bobby Shady, CEO and Co-Founder of Heyday Health, said that technology is also essential to providing greater access to high-quality patient care.
"With simple yet effective technology to support our patients and our care teams, we know we can provide an exceptional experience and improve the health and well-being of our patients," said Shady.
"For better or worse, technology has helped us to survive the last year. Whether it's through virtual dinners with our family or taking online classes, as a society, we're more connected than ever. The pandemic has also brought to light the fact that telehealth - and the ability to see a doctor virtually, rather than in person - is a critical part of the health care service continuum, especially for individuals who have trouble traveling for routine visits. YBI is proud to help launch Heyday Health into the Mahoning Valley, offering senior citizens another option for world class healthcare from their homes," said Barbara Ewing, CEO of the Youngstown Business Incubator.
After analyzing the healthcare landscape, demographic trends, population size and consulting with local stakeholders, the team determined that the Valley was a perfect fit for launch, using virtual care to help more people quicker.
"We are proud to be launching in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, an area that is actively innovating while not losing its sense of community," Shady said. "We are grateful for the support of YBI and are thrilled to be building our Heyday Health team right here in Youngstown."
Local lawmakers also praised the new collaboration.
"This launch announcement for Heyday Health, a YBI-supported portfolio company, is another shining example of what incubators do to nurture and grow successful startups - and no organization does it better than the Youngstown Business Incubator. With the assistance of the YBI, Heyday Health built a new model of personalized care for older adults using an innovative platform. I am proud that Heyday has chosen the Youngstown area to launch their innovative model, the first of its kind in the country. I am excited for Heyday Health and the Youngstown Business Incubator for breathing life into emerging technologies to solve today's challenges," said Rep. Tim Ryan (OH-13).
The Heyday Health team is now accepting new patients.
