Signs of spring give small businesses hope in Columbiana
Spring Into Columbiana put on by the Chamber of Commerce is showcasing what small businesses have to offer.
The owner of Madison Corner, Karla Vanfossan, which sells women, children, and babies apparel, home decor, and more, says the timing is perfect.
"I think people are starting to get back to normal, people are social distancing and you really don't have to say anything. People come in with their masks on. We really appreciate local support, it is a lifeline for local business owners, who also support local businesses," said Vanfossan.
When state pandemic orders closed doors by the time Madison Corner could reopen it was another season.
The Wish List which sells antiques moved here in January last year. The business which closed for a few months is thankful it appears we're turning a corner.
Roberta Shuler, who helps her son said, "It's just starting to pick up and you can just see the people's faces. They're so happy to be out and about it's wonderful.
Everyone should come down and see us. It's just great!"
The owner of Columbiana Nutrition Allison Wereb tells WFFMJ, its sales of energizing metabolizing boosting teas and healthy protein shake meal replacements have increased. It opened last July and remained open during the pandemic and used curbside service to help businesses.
The business is still offering call-ahead services on Facebook and Instagram, which allows people to order ahead or call in advance.
Tables and chairs allow for social distancing.
Wereb said, "It very important because it gets a lot of people outside and it gets people to see what businesses were here and see what businesses have opened up since the pandemic started."
"We opened in July so we were able to maintain steady over winter, and we have picked up with events like this people just walking by and seeing us be busy, wanting to come in and see what we're all about has really helped us and our numbers have grown drastically over the last few months."
The business owners added when you have people shop local whole communities grow.
Over a dozen businesses took part in today's Spring into Columbiana.
