A long time dream may soon become a reality for the Warren School district.

Superintendent Steve Chiaro confirms to 21 WFMJ Sports he's received permission to get quotes for construction of an indoor facility/wellness center on the Warren Harding campus.

The 65,000 to 70,000 square facility would be located behind the current band shell to the existing athletic wing as seen in the photo.

"For years we've been saving money for capital improvements so there will be no additional cost to taxpayers for construction or operation, " said Chiaro.

Part of the plan is to make improvements to the east side of Mollenkopf Stadium.  Parts of the cement structure, which is 91 years old are falling and the locker-rooms beneath are in bad shape.

Chiaro does not have a total cost of the center due to rising prices of construction materials but hopes once an architect is hired that can be decided.

The plans for the Wellness Center call for a green space for all sports, a 220 meter track on the ground floor as well as a walking track on a second level and other amenities.

"This facility will be a help to all of our sports," said Chairo, adding it will be open to the community.

A timeline for ground breaking hasn't been decided. That will be up to the firm that gets the contract and decide that timeline.
