After a two-month-long closure, the Mahoning Avenue Bridge over Interstate 680 has re-opened.

The City of Youngstown Engineering Department opened the span Tuesday morning after repairs were completed on the support structure below.

The bridge was damaged on January 11 when an SUV ran into a semi-truck, crashing into the bridge.

I-680 north and southbound lanes were shut down for a few hours last Thursday so crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation could lower the bridge back onto the repaired pier column and cap according to Ray Marsch, ODOT District 4.

Since then, I-680 has been reduced to one lane in each direction under the bridge. The Marshall Street ramp also remains closed.

Marsch tells 21 News that if the weather continues to cooperate, all lanes of I-680 could be open by late Wednesday.
