Hundreds of dead fish were found washed up on the shore of Berlin Lake Friday morning.
After finding out about the situation, an environmentalist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers went to check out the lake. They say there were hundreds of fish that are believed to be shad fish spotted in a small portion of the lake.
Officials say the temperature drop we had in February with that ice frozen over the lake deprived the fish of oxygen. It is not unusual for fish to react this way when temperatures drop. They added there was no sign of pollution being a cause of death.
It was a natural occurrence, officials say.
