Man convicted of Austintown bar attack
A Youngstown man now awaits sentencing in March after pleading guilty to a charge filed following an Austintown bar fight that left the victim with serious head injuries.
Samuel Daviduk, 25, who at one time was on the U.S. Marshal’s “Top 5 Fugitive” list, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of felonious assault.
He could be sentenced to 8 to 12 years in prison. However, the prosecutor is recommending a sentence of 7 to ten-and-a-half years.
Daviduk was charged in connection with a fight that broke out at Shotz Bar on Oakwood Avenue on July 11, shortly after midnight.
Police say a man was choked by Daviduk during the melee before being thrown to the ground and repeatedly kicked in the head. Daviduk allegedly came back into the bar several times and punched the victim, who was seriously injured.
A witness at the scene said another male brandished a gun while at the bar shortly after the fight before leaving the scene in a two-door gray pickup truck.
The victim was taken to the hospital and had surgery for a severe brain bleed that he sustained in the fight.
In 2016, Daviduk was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to felonious assault.
Police say Daviduk was arrested charged after assaulting the mother of his child and her father.
His nineteen-year-old girlfriend told police Daviduk kicked her and tried to smother her with a towel the night before because she refused to give him the keys to her apartment.
The woman's father told police, the suspect punched him in the face several times.
