In what was one of the most anticipated games of the 2021 regular season between two 20-win teams, the Struthers Wildcats boys basketball team defeated the McDonald Blue Devils 92-71, completing a perfect regular season with a record of 21-0.

The Wildcats have completed a regular season 20-0, but had never won 21 games in a season without a loss.... until this year.

Struthers once again was led to victory by Trey Metzka, who scored a game-high 32 points, filling up the scoresheet in a lot of different ways, including a highlight break-away dunk. Senior guard Brandon Washington scored 20 points, while Luke Barker added 16 and Ronnie Leonard tallied 10 points.

McDonald finishes an amazing regular season with a record of 20-2, under first-year coach James Franceschelli. Miles Culp poured in 24 points for the Blue Devils with Eli Street right behind, scoring 22 points. Jake Portolese notched 12 points.

Up next is the OHSAA tournament for both teams, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 23. The No. 1 seeded Blue Devils will host North Bloomfield in the first round of the Div. IV Northeast 2 sectionals. Struthers will put their undefeated record on the line the same day at the Fieldhouse against the No. 25 seed Niles Red Dragons in the Div. II Northeast 1 sectionals.
