Days after announcing her candidacy for Youngstown mayor, a controversial tweet from Republican Tracey Winbush has surfaced regarding her views on homosexuality.

In 2015, the day after the Supreme Court made same-sex marriage a right nationwide, Winbush tweeted: "homosexuality is a sin just like lying and fornication and I'm against them all. I don't pick and choose even if I do them."

The tweet has recently resurfaced on social media following Winbush's announcement she would run for mayor. The tweet was then shared dozens of times with one person saying "She should be reminded that if she's elected, she would be a representative of everyone, not just people she likes/agrees with..."

"I'm not here to judge your life, I just may not agree with it. Then again I may not agree with some of my family choices but they make them, I love them, I support them, and I'm going to do right by them even if we disagree," said Winbush.

Winbush says she can not comment as to whether homosexuality is a "choice," but said her own belief that it's a sin would not impact how she governs the city.

"Absolutely not. If they're ready to do business. If they're ready to live here. If they go by the laws and ordinances and procedures of Youngstown, welcome at it," said Winbush. "This city should be open to everyone. We are not supposed to discriminate against how you live your life. That's not what this is about. This is about foundation, infrastructure, and governance making it equal access to everyone."

And while people may disagree on the issue at hand, Winbush said it should come down to respect.

"I love everybody and everybody may not like me but, I want them to respect me because I respect them, and if I'm disrespectful I didn't mean to do that," said Winbush.
