Poland boys basketball coach Ken Grisdale is the longest-tenured boys basketball coach at one school in Mahoning County and now has 500 career wins to add to his impressive resume. In his 28th year at Poland, the milestone victory came in a 64-45 win at home Tuesday against Jefferson.

No. 500 puts Grisdale in rare company, one of just 47 boys basketball coaches in Ohio to reach the mark.

"It's special," he said post game. "I sat in my office at was looking the wall where I have all the kids over the years of the 27 teams, this is 28 and to think of all the memories, all the great kids I had, I had a ton of great assistants. Everybody has created a situation where we can be successful."

Grisdale has 15 league titles, 10 district titles, three regional appearances, and is an 18-time winner of the Mahoning Valley Coaches Association Coach of the Year honor. Grisdale says he never could've imagined he'd get this far in his coaching career. Grisdale did get this far and it came at the right time as he told the media post game this is his final season.

"For someone to be at the same place for 28 years in today's age, I think that's impossible," he said. "Never thought it and I could probably go  another 10 (years) if it weren't for my daughter going to college, and I want to follow her," Grisdale added. When asked if this would be his final season, Grisdale replied, "This is it. This is it."

The veteran coach is now 500-155.

If the 500th win wasn't historic enough for the Grisdale family, Ken's daughter Jackie set Poland's all-time record for points in a game on Saturday.
