Damage from Monday's accident involving a semi-tractor truck and a car has caused a large section of Interstate 680 in Youngstown to remain closed.

The closed section is below the Mahoning Avenue bridge as well as both directions of the freeway including the Connecticut and Belle Vista and Glenwood Avenue entrances.

Youngtown police said 7-11 is also closed completely, causing traffic delays.

The following are closed:

I-680 SB Belle Vista on-ramp
I-680 NB at Glenwood avenue exit
711 exit for I-680 SB
Oakwood on-ramp to I-680

Until further notice, the road closures on I-680 Southbound, I-680 Northbound, 7-11 Southbound Exit, and the Mahoning Avenue bridge in both directions will be in effect until at least Wednesday afternoon.

Police said if you are going northbound, you will have to use Himrod Avenue Expressway to get around the scene.

If you are going southbound, you will have to take the Madison Avenue Expressway.

The Mahoning Avenue overpass is also closed because of how significantly it was damaged.

One person in the car was taken to the hospital but does not have serious injuries.

The driver of the truck, Harold Kidder, was not injured.

We spoke to Kidder, who said "I come around the on-ramp, see the traffic coming on, nothing in the left lane...so I went to move over, next thing I know I felt a little bump, a big jerk, and I'm against the barrier."

A Cadillac crossover SUV ended up wedged underneath it. "All I was trying to do was keep the truck under control and keep it from rolling over," Kidder said.

ODOT inspectors and the Mahoning County Engineer's Office were on scene too, determining what needed to be done to stabilize and fix the bridge. That process, ODOT said, may mean closures beyond Wednesday.
