The first vaccines were administered at Briarfield at Ashley Circle.

The doses are step one of the two-dose Pfizer vaccine, and participation is voluntary.

"Of our seven facilities, we are getting enough doses to vaccinate all of our residents and company-wide, we have about a 98% participation rate so far with our residents," said Diane Reese the president of Briarfield at Ashley Circle.

As hands-on administrators, Diane and CEO Ed Reese also received the vaccine. Dr. Linda Pommier, who provides dental services to residents, also got her first shot.

The Reese's are impressed that vaccine development and distribution has taken less than a year.

"I really have to say it's been remarkable and we're so pleased to be here this morning to get the vaccines and start the process off in our facilities and also Mahoning County," said Ed Reese CEO of Brierfield.

The vaccine won't open the doors for a return to normal visitations, that will depend on the positivity rate in the county.

The vaccine requires a second dose in 21 days.
