Canfield waitress surprised with $1,000 tip
A Canfield waitress is calling a couple that quietly left her a $1-thousand dollar cash tip her "angels" according to the restaurant's owner.
Like so many other restaurants, business at the Phoenix Fire Grill and Bar in Canfield has been especially slow. Add that to the stress of the holiday season, and you can see why money for so many servers and staff right now may be particularly tight.
"I'll never stress it enough, that there's still really, really good people out there," said Owner Saki Manias.
Last Saturday, while Shelley Velonis was working a normal shift as a waitress, the unexpected happened when a couple left her a $1,000 tip.
"It was a big surprise, I didn't know them, I had never seen them here," said Velonis. "I was shocked. I thought it was a mistake like they had left it on accident. So I went to see if they were still there, but they were gone."
"It happened to be that it went to the most deserving person, the one that was in need the most with her family situation and her children," said Manias.
Shelley shared some of the tip with other staff working that night, according to Manias.
Those there say the couple who left the money seemed as if they wanted to do so quietly.
Velonis was never given the chance to say 'thank you.'
"I don't know what words to say, that's such a generous thing to do for someone," said Velonis.
