Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull Ohio Department of Transportation officials said they pre-treated the state routes at 4 o'clock this morning to prep for another round of winter weather, and they've had all of their trucks out on the road since the snow started.

Mahoning County ODOT said snowplow drivers are on 12-hour shifts and there is no slowing down until the storm settles.

As far as the county roads go, Mahoning and Columbiana County engineers said their trucks were out on the streets since this early afternoon.

They remind drivers: Keep a distance from plows, stay off of cell phones, and remember; Bridges get slippery first.

"Don't overcompensate and go too slow, but at the same time, don't drive like it's summer either," said Patrick Ginnetti, Mahoning County Engineer.

To keep drivers safe more efficiently this winter, Columbiana County ODOT is using a new tanker that holds 8,000 gallons to spread salt and brine on the roads.

The tank has six nozzles that allow a single truck to flood the highway with brine, making the roads clear faster. ODOT said this new technology does the job of six trucks.
