A member of the Warren City School Board is stepping down after serving the city's children for nearly three decades.

Robert Faulkner Sr. announced his resignation on Tuesday after a 29-year tenure which included the positions of board president and vice-president.

During his time on the board, Faulkner helped establish the Trumbull Career and Technical Center and currently serves on the TCTC Board of Education as Warren's board representative.

Faulkner also contributed to the Warren City Schools Learn to Swim Program and has been a proponent in the concept that all children from a mid-sized urban environment like Warren should have the opportunity and be taught, in school, to swim. Additionally, he has been a supporter of the creation of the district's robotics program.

"Mr. Faulkner has been a respected longtime leader of the Warren City Schools. His commitment and passion for education are reflective in his 29- year service to our students, staff, families, and the greater Warren community. His dedication to this Board and the Warren City Schools will surely be missed," said Board of Education President Patti Limperos.

The school board must name Faulkner's replacement within 30 days of his resignation and will begin interviewing candidates in the next few weeks.

The newly appointed member will serve through the end of Faulkner's term that expires Dec. 31, 2021. If the appointed member desires to continue serving beyond the appointment, he or she must run in the next general election to be held on Nov. 2, 2021.

Those interested in serving on the board may apply through the district's website through 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17 at www.warrencityschools.org by clicking on the Board Vacancy advertisement to submit an electronic application.
