A Youngstown man faces nine charges after Austintown Police say he tried to escape from them with an infant in his car.

Police say 27-year-old Devon Talley Jr. sped away when an officer tried to catch up with his car along County Line Road early Thursday.

When the chase reached an apartment building along Niles Carver Road, Police say Talley’s car began traveling in reverse toward the officer’s car.

It was then that Talley jumped out of his car and ran toward the apartment, according to the report.

The officer says he wrestled with Talley until he was able to put him in handcuffs.

The report says Talley had cash and Tramadol in his pockets. A search of the car turned up more cash and tramadol, as well as bags of marijuana, cocaine, and crack cocaine.

A woman inside Talley’s car was with her child who police say was less than one year old. Because of that, Talley has been charged with child endangering, as well as resisting arrest, obstructing official business, speeding, and five drug violations.

According to the report, Talley told police he would not have tried to run away if he had not been high on marijuana.

The report says Talley’s car was traveling 50 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone during the chase.

Talley is in the Mahoning County jail awaiting a court hearing.
