A person has died after being hit by a vehicle in Boardman Friday night.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. along Market Street near Cadillac Drive. 

Troopers said 70-year-old Leon Witiver was crossing the street westbound when the vehicle, driven by 86-year-old Thomas Carney Jr., struck him going southbound. 

Witiver was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Carney was not injured. 

Market Street was closed in both directions for several hours, but now the northbound lane is open as of 1:45 a.m. 

Carney did stay at the scene and was not suspected to be under the influence, according to police. 

The crash remains under investigation.
