A condemned Boardman motel could be forced to close permanently.

Boardman's Wagon Wheel motel, which was forced to close it's doors temporarily for repairs last year, is once again the subject of a legal hearing.

In 2019 Mahoning County Courts came to an agreement with Boardman Township and the Wagon Wheel motel that would give the motel three years to make renovations and repairs, especially to the roof.

In 2019 the court ruled that the motel would need to communicate said repairs to the township and fire department by the yearly deadline, but as of August 1st there was no such communication.

The latest complaint came to the Boardman Fire Department on September 1st when part of the motel's roof collapsed. Boardman Fire Cheif Mark Pitzer tells 21 News that water damage and mold was also found in rooms surrounding the area the roof collapsed.

Pitzer says the next steps would be for the courts to either hand down a temporary restraining order and allow for the motel to temporarily shut down while further decisions are made through the courts, or the courts could rule that the motel is to permanently shut down due to the lack of repairs made in the agreed-upon time frame and the current condition.
