An undercover investigation that began more than a year ago has resulted in the arrest of a Youngstown man suspected of selling powerful narcotics on the city’s West Side and South Side.

Authorities last week arrested 31-year-old Jarrell Martin of South Dunlap Avenue on a charge of distributing a controlled substance, according to a federal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

An affidavit filed by an FBI Task Force officer says that confidential sources were given government money to make fifteen drug purchases from Martin between June of last year through January of this year.

The affidavit says five of the purchases were made along Mahoning Avenue on the West Side, while nine other drug buys took place on West Indianola Avenue on the South Side.

One of the purchases took place at the dead-end of Matta Avenue next to McGuffey Elementary School on the West Side, according to the affidavit.

The drugs that were purchased were tested at the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.  Most were mixtures of heroin, fentanyl, carfentanil, and cocaine.

Martin made a video appearance before a federal magistrate when he was arrested on Thursday.

A detention hearing is set for Martin on Tuesday.
