Dave Grohl's seventh album as the Foo Fighters' frontman in 2011 was called "Wasting Light," but BRITE Energy is wasting no time in raising money to light up Grohl Alley in downtown Warren. Grohl, who was born in Warren, has an alley which is located one block south of the Trumbull Co. Courthouse between Main Ave. SW and S. Park Ave. dedicated the musician.

BRITE Energy Innovators is raising funds to install light-emitting diode (LED) lighting within Dave Grohl Alley.

The campaign, which was announced on Friday, July 17, is launching in partnership with the Dave Grohl Alley Committee (DGAC). The funds raised will go to create an interactive light show in the covered portion of the alley. The display will have a 25,000 light display and will also be to interact with a visitor’s music from a kiosk which will be housed inside Modern Methods Brewing Co.

BRITE is partnering with the Howland-based special effects lighting company Chromaticity Technologies to create the display. The project is slated to launch in late summer.

Nearly 50 percent of the funding needed has been secured from community partners. BRITE is looking to raise the additional $10,000 from individual and corporate support.

“We’ve wanted to pair our mission with the authenticity of the Alley for quite some time,” said BRITE’s Director of Operations Sara Daughtery, noting that the installation simultaneously will make the alleyway a safer space for pedestrians. “Tying technology to being able to experience Dave Grohl’s music in a new way is very exciting!”

Since the Alley’s dedication in 2009, the Alley committee has turned the alley into a place for arts, tourism, and entertainment destination.

“We have had the opportunity to work with several public and private entities including the Fund for Warren’s Future, Trumbull-100, the Raymond John Wean Foundation, the City of Warren and Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership to rejuvenate the alley and create a vibrant space for our community,” said Shawn Carvin, Chairman of the DGAC. “This new partnership with BRITE and the ongoing commitment of the DGAC will keep the momentum going with the redevelopment of Downtown Warren.”
