Columbiana County Humane Society seizes over 200 animals

The Columbiana County Humane Agents have spent hours Friday afternoon working what could be the largest animal seizure in the state.
The humane society seized over 200 animals from what they described as filthy and extremely unhealthy conditions.
An attorney for the humane society says those numbers could still grow.
The animals were seized on the property of Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary, along Depot Road.
Dogs, cats and other small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits were seized from the property.
The animals are undergoing veterinary assessments and will be quarantined until testing and treatment plans have been developed.
The humane society says they are now in need of donations and volunteers because of the number of animals coming into the shelter.
The Columbiana County Humane Society is the only county humane society that can investigate suspected animal abuse in the area, according to officials.
At this point, no charges have been filed and humane agents are still investigating who is responsible for the care of these animals.
A hearing will be scheduled to determine the custody of the animals.
Monetary donations and animal care supplies can be donated directly to the shelter. People can also donate through the humane society's website.
