Former YSU football player arrested after allegedly driving car into Lake Erie
A former YSU football player was arrested after he allegedly drove his car into Lake Erie Saturday afternoon.
According to the release, Put-in-Bay Police responded to the call around 6:30 p.m. about a car that drove into Lake Erie near the 200 block of Conlan Road on South Bass Island in Put-in-Bay Township.
Police say an orange Camaro was off the embankment and in the water when they arrived. Witnesses told officers that the driver was still in the car trying to drive it while it was in the water.
According to the release, witnesses saw the car moving at a very high speed when it went off the road and flew off the embankment into the lake.
Officers say they approached the car and the driver, later identified as Jeremiah Lamont Braswell, was still in the seat attempting to drive forward.
Braswell allegedly told officers that he was stuck and didn't know what happened.
The release says that Braswell's speech was slurred and he could not explain how the Camaro ended up in the water.
Police say Braswell submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle intoxicated. A breath test showed that his blood alcohol levels were above the legal limit.
No one else was in the vehicle and no bystanders were injured during the incident.
Braswell played wide receiver at Youngstown State University between 2015 and 2019 before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals.
