Liberty Board of Education accepts superintendent's resignation

In a special meeting of the Liberty Local School District Board of Education held on Saturday, the board voted to accept the resignation of Superintendent Joseph Nohra effective on August 2, 2020.
The Board also approved the employment of Nohra as an Administrative Consultative through January 25, 2021, to assist in the transition to the new administration.
Nohra, a lifelong resident of Liberty Township and a former member of the Liberty Local School District Board of Education, has been Superintendent of the District since August 1, 2017.
During the three years Nohra has been Superintendent, many new programs and facility improvements occurred, including adding a robotics program, K-9 dogs sponsored by the District, increased programs for special needs students and increasing the number of Chromebooks for students.
Nohra said that the reasons for his departure include his desire to find a better work-life balance, his health, and new work challenges outside the field of education.
Stated Board President Calvin Jones, “During this difficult time and with this leadership change, the Board’s priority is to work to bring students back to school in the Fall under guidelines from the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio Department of Health, and to restart quality educational programs with the help and
support of the parents and Liberty community. The District is in a good position and has an excellent leadership group in place and a team of employees who are dedicated to serving the students and families of the Liberty community.”
The Board also announced at the meeting that effective August 3, 2020, an Interim Superintendent will be in place for the next school year.
Nora added that it will be the students of the Liberty School district that will stick with him after he is gone.
