Two people are dead after a crash along I-80 in Girard involving a motorcycle and semi. 

The crash happened around noon Tuesday in the westbound lane near mile marker 227.

Two people were riding on a Honda Goldwing Tricycle when they swerved to avoid debris in the roadway. The tricycle overturned in the left lane and both people were thrown off. The semi hit the tricycle and the two people, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. 

The passenger of the Honda Goldwing was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital by Lane LifeTrans where he died from his injuries. Those victims have not yet been identified. 

The driver of the semi was not hurt. 

I-80 westbound was closed during the crash investigation but has since re-opened. Traffic had been back up into Liberty Township. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Commercial Enforcement Unit responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
