Youngstown Police join Chaney High School football team practice

The Youngstown Police Department joined members of the Chaney High School football team Monday and Tuesday evening for practice.
Chaney football coach, Chris Amill, reached out to Lt. Frank Rutherford to see if police would like to join the Chaney football team for practice.
Amill said Youngstown Police were "more than willing" to participate in practice.
"Our kids see what's on social media and they see what's on TV and I just wanted them to be able to see the police officers for who they are," Amill said.
Officers ran drills with the team and had small group conversations about law enforcement and use of force.
"With everything going on in the world, we are just trying to bridge that gap and build community pride with the police and our students," Amill said.
Amill said Youngstown Police will continue to join Chaney and East High School's football practices throughout the summer.
IT'S GOOD TO HAVE THEM DOWN HERE TALK TO US, WHAT THEY REALLY WANT TO DO. HELP US OUT. THEY EXPLAINED TO US WHY THEY EVEN BECAME AN OFFICER AND ALL THAT," said Deishawn Petrsky.
