The Ohio Fire Marshal is looking for the cause of a fire that gutted a home in Columbiana County early Wednesday.

The call to 9-1-1 came in just after 1 a.m. as a garage on fire along the 42000 block of State Route 39 in Yellow Creek Township.

When firefighters from the Highlandtown Volunteer fire department arrived, they found that flames had spread to the home.

Firefighters from seven surrounding departments battled the fire for more than four hours.  State Route 39 was closed in the area.

The family living there got out ok, but Fire Chief Jeremiah Cole tells 21 News that the two-story, 5,900 square foot home was gutted by flames.

Damages are still being added up, but property records show the home is valued at $450,000.
