The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown announced plans for public calling hours for Bishop George V. Murry during masses across the area Sunday.

Public calling hours are scheduled for Thursday at St. Columba Cathedral in Downtown Youngstown from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with social distancing protocols in effect.

The funeral mass for Bishop Murry is scheduled for Friday but it will be closed to the public.

Bishop Murry passed away Friday, June 5 at the age of 71 following a lengthy battle with leukemia.

He served as the fifth bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown from 2007 until 2020.

Murry sent a letter of resignation to Pope Francis due to his health concerns in May.

He was receiving inpatient treatment in New York City at the time of his death.
