Authorities have filed charges against three people, including a man who was shot while allegedly trying to steal the catalytic converter from a car outside of a Trumbull County home.

Thirty-nine-year-old Dave Evans of Warren remains St. Elizabeth Hospital but faces charges of petty theft and possessing criminal tools.

Charges were filed Thursday against Evans in Trumbull County Eastern District Court after he was shot by a homeowner while allegedly trying to steal a catalytic converter from a car at a home on State Route 87 in Gustavus Township.

Police later pulled over an SUV and found a saw blade and a walkie talkie tuned to the same channel as a walkie talkie found with the man who had been shot.

Two people in the SUV, 25-year-old Jordan Riddle of Eastlake, Ohio, and 31-year-old Virgil Minnitti, III of Liberty Township were arrested.

During video arraignments from jail, Riddle pleaded not guilty to complicity to commit theft.  Minnitti III pleaded not guilty to a drug paraphernalia charge.

Although deputies read Miranda Rights to the homeowner, court records indicate that no charges had been filed against him as of Friday morning.
