Camp Fitch not just for kids and teens this year
For decades attending Camp Fitch YMCA in North Springfield, Pennsylvania has been the highlight of kid's summers.
With pandemic precautions in place and the state not wanting kids from different families to congregate, summer camp isn't just for kids and teens anymore.
Camp Fitch is changing operations so parents and kids will be able to enjoy activities and make memories together.
Executive Director of Camp Fitch Tom Parker said, "I think we're going to call it the family flagship experience where for a couple of days and a couple of nights you can bring your family and the program is isolated so you would be the only family in an activity."
"We have rooms that have their own shower and bathroom. Cabins and cabinets which are half cabin and half tent have access to their shower and bathroom. Families can take part in activities including equestrian, archery, arts, crafts, hiking, canoeing, and swimming in Lake Erie. We will have mountain biking for the first time ever."
Parker added, "We've got a kilometer of beach for swimming, sailing, stand up paddleboarding and our staff can instruct our lifeguard can guard. Rock climbing you get your own harness and the wall will get around 24 hours to clean between to dry and disinfect. Our team has gone through every one of our activities and they have come up with a protocol for cleaning, and social distancing."
Group activities such as soccer and crate stacking will not take place, and the pool will be closed until the governor decides it can open.
All pools in Pennsylvania are ordered closed. Almost all other activities are available for guests camping.
The employees will wear masks and stay at least 6 feet away from guests.
The camp is allowed to deliver food or provide grab and go food for families.
Updates on the county health department approval for plans to open again will be made on Camp Fitch's Facebook page.
