The joint venture between GM and LG Chem will eventually build batteries for at least 20 different electric vehicles.

The coronavirus has not slowed down the process of getting this factory built whatsoever according to Lordstown Mayor, Arno Hill.

The plant will be located at Tod Avenue Southwest, right behind the Lordstown Motors plant.
We also know the first vehicles the batteries will go in will be the GMC Hummer all electric pick up truck and the Cadillac Lyriq SUV.

The Lordstown Village Planning Commission approved the $2.3 billion dollar project's site plan on Monday so they can now officially begin construction.

Mayor Hill says he expects concrete work to begin in a few weeks.

"They plan on pouring footers for the buildings next month. By the end of 2021, the building will be in good shape. It will look like it's almost done. Now I'm not sure how it will look on the inside, but they are moving forward at a rapid pace," said Hill.

Hill says it doesn't look like COVID 19 has slowed anything down.

"I think they are going to keep moving forward. They haven't missed a beat at the TJX Homegoods site. The battery plant..when I was over there, everyone was wearing masks and they have a lot of excavation equipment there so I don't think the coronavirus will effect this project at all."

The batteries made in the plant will eventually be used in 22 electric GM models by 2023. They are supposed to get 400 miles per charge.
They hope to start production of them in Lordstown by 2022.
