The men and women who once turned out the Chevy Cruze in Lordstown are getting a look inside the Assembly Plant abandoned by General Motors more than a year ago.

Lordstown Motors CEO Steve Burns has released a virtual tour showing how his company plans to manufacture electric pickup trucks using the plant’s equipment.

Calling the 53-year-old plant “a gem of a building” Burns says the equipment is modern and will be reconfigured to make the “Endurance” pickups for delivery early next year.

“If we were to build this from scratch, it just wouldn’t be possible. They aren’t going to make buildings like this again,” said Burns.

Burns narrates the manufacturing process, showing in a three-minute, 42-second time-lapse video how the truck body will be stamped, dipped, and assembled using robots.

“To produce a vehicle is not trivial…it takes a lot of automation and a lot of people and this plant has been perfect for us.” Said Burns.

The video does not show the vehicle or its parts.

Burns said the unveiling likely be a virtual event that will be held from headquarters in Lordstown.
