Two-thirds of the people who have tested positive for the coronavirus in Columbiana County are male, according to health officials there.

The health district on Friday revealed that 90 people have been confirmed with COVID-19, nine more cases than reported the day before.  The number of deaths remained at six.

Of the approximately 60 males diagnosed with the disease, more than one-fourth of those patients are between the ages of 60 and 69.  Another fourth are between 50 and 59 years old.

One-third of the males who tested positive are between 30 and 49.

Health officials say their statistics include the nine staff members and 10 inmates who have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Elkton Federal Correctional Institution.  Three of those inmates have died.

Although prison officials have said that the inmates who died were males aged 53, 65, and 76 - all with underlying conditions, they have not released the ages of the 16 staff members and inmates who have survived the disease.
