USDA launches pilot program for SNAP online purchasing.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is rolling out a pilot program to allow online purchasing for SNAP (food stamp) recipients.
The action comes at a time when people are being ask to stay home to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. In a tele-conference on Monday, USDA Secretary, Sonny Perdue said the department is expanding new flexibilities to meet the nations needs for food and nutrition during this difficult time.
Mahoning County Job and Family Service Director Bob Bush says Ohio SNAP recipients can use online ordering if their grocer is a participant in the program and has the proper equipment to complete the transaction.

Perdue said the department is working hard to accelerate approval and implementation of waivers. Congress has approved $1.3 billion dollars in additional benefits for households in the coming days and weeks. States will determine when they plan to issue those benefit dollars.
