Report: Three Elkton prisoners dead, one employee positive for coronavirus
The Associated Press reports that three inmates have died at the Federal Correctional Institution at Elkton, where a prison staff member has also tested positive for COVID-19.
Federal officials have not released the age, gender, or condition of the employee, but lists the worker as among fifty Bureau of Prison staff members who have tested positive at prison facilities around the country.
As of Friday, 91 inmates have tested positive for coronavirus at nineteen federal prisons. Eight inmates have died, including the three at Elkton FCI.
The Bureau of Prisons has released information on two Elkton inmates who died this week. Woodrow Taylor, who was serving a five-year prison sentence for cocaine possession conspiracy, and 65-year old Margarito Garcia-Fragoso, serving a ten-year sentence for cocaine possession, died on Thursday after being hospitalized. Bureau of Prison officials say both men had long-term, pre-existing medical conditions.
The Associated Press is reporting that a third Elkton inmate has died, but the Bureau of Prisons has not released the identity of that victim.
The AP also reports that Attorney General William Barr has ordered the Bureau of Prisons to increase the use of home confinement as a way of stemming the spread of COVID-19.
