During the Coronavirus pandemic the Valley, along with the rest of the country, is being asked to do something we're not used to doing: stay away from each other.

Social distancing according to countless experts, including Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton, is crucial to slow the spread of the virus but it could also have some unintended consequences too.

Youngstown State University Assistant Psychology Professor Dr. Joy Tang says the distance between people during these times can make us all feel a little lonely.

"Because it's such an inherent need for us; we really need to live a prosperous life," Tang said. "I think social distancing has been found to lead to boredom, and I think a prolonged period of time can really make us feel a sense of isolation and loneliness."

Tang did note that technology has played a big part in helping us cope. Tools like Facetime and Skype have allowed countless family members to see each other, easing some of the stress from not being face-to-face without the screen.
