1/2
In an exclusive podcast interview, 21 News anchor Derek Steyer speaks with scientist Linda Saif, an international authority on viral diseases of animals that also sicken humans, about the coronavirus pandemic and what to expect going forward.
Derek chats with Saif and gets her expert opinion on what we are doing right to battle this deadly disease, what more could we do to stop the spread.
Saif shares her knowledge on COVID-19, and all coronaviruses, which are a large family of viruses, which includes the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), all of which can infect both humans and animals and how 80 percent of cases are mild, but can still spread the virus.
Saif is a scientist at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and the College of Veterinary Medicine, also a member of Ohio State's Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), where she is a co-director for the Viruses and Emerging Pathogens Program. She is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Distinguished University Professor at Ohio State, where she is a faculty member in the Food Animal Health Research Program.
