New Castle police had their hands full Friday after arresting five people during a raid that uncovered several firearms and suspected drugs. 

Officers, along with the Lawrence County District Attorney's Special Investigative Unit, served a search warrant at the apartment on Highland Avenue.

Police said when they gained entry to the residence; one suspect tried to run away by jumping down the fire escape.

He was later apprehended after a foot chase.

Detectives searched through the apartment and found the items listed below.

  • One GLOCK 27 semi-automatic handgun, extended magazine loaded with 27 rounds (reported stolen from Meadville, Pennsylvania)
  • One GLOCK semi-automatic handgun loaded with nine rounds
  • One GLOCK 23 semi-automatic handgun extended magazine loaded with 29 rounds
  • One Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun loaded with 12 rounds
  • One Springfield Armory XD9 9mm semi-automatic handgun, with an extended magazine, loaded
  • 42.15 gg of suspected heroin
  • 33.58 gg suspected marijuana
  • 9 Suboxone strips
  • 4 digital weighing scales
  • $1,718 in cash

Police arrested the five following people, all under the age of 25, on possession of firearms charges.

Jgenus Steele (20), Maliek McDaniel (21), Israel Cruz (18) and Jadeya Brothers (20) were charged with Persons (Felons) not to possess firearms, possession of firearms with altered serial number, three counts of possession with the Intent to Deliver and one count of Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm).

Twenty-four-year-old Scier Jackson was charged with possession of firearms with altered serial numbers, three counts of possession with the Intent to Deliver, and one count of Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm).

Steele, McDaniel, Jackson, and Brothers are all from New Castle.

Cruz is from Kentucky.

Drug charges will be pending as detectives await laboratory results.
