The Trumbull County man accused of the shooting death of a Niles mother has been found guilty.

29-year-old Ryan Daniels, Sr. has been found guilty of reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter. A jury took only about an hour to determine the verdict.

The charges stem from the shooting death of 33-year-old Britney Mazanec, who was shot inside of her car in the parking lot of the Hideaway Lounge Bar and Grill on Route 422 in February 2019.

Family members told 21 News that Mazanec had been at the bar with her sister and co-workers and that they did not know Daniels.

Daniels withdrew a guilty plea last year.

During the hearing Thursday, Daniels took the stand in an unexpected move. He tried to explain that he thought he had cleared his weapon so he could put it into his friend's glove compartment as they were leaving, and an argument broke out in the parking lot.

Daniels said he ran to try and break up a fight when he tapped a car window, and his gun accidentally fired. Daniels claimed it was never his intention to hurt anyone.

"It was just spur of the moment I was trying to get over there and help," said Daniels.

Daniels is a father of four children and had a concealed carry permit. He had no felony record before his conviction in this case.

The mother of the victim said that while a guilty verdict does not bring her daughter back. It does bring justice.

"I hope from this verdict people when they take out a weapon they know there are consequences. You better have a right to use it or reason to use it or to have it out," said Tammy Stone.

"It's really a double tragedy," said Assistant Prosecutor Chris Becker. "A young man who obviously had his carry concealed permit and was trained to handle it properly (but) did not, and the greater tragedy, of course, is that a young woman who was just in the prime of her life and a mother has lost her life."

Daniels's bond was revoked at Thursday's hearing, and his sentencing is scheduled for February 26th at 1 p.m. He faces up to six years behind bars.
