Police made a quick arrest in an overnight shooting that left a Boardman teen dead. Now, we're learning more about the relationship between the teen suspect and victim.
At 19 years-old Emanuel Boyd is now charged with murder. He was arraigned before a judge less than 24 hours after the alleged crime.
The scene unfolded around 1 a.m. Thursday in the 55-hundred block of West Boulevard.
Police said Boyd shot 18-year-old Kane Weisensee in the chest and that Weisensee died at the hospital.
"I just wish we could have saved him. It's too late now," said Weisensee's younger cousin, Arianna Mace.
Mace remembers Weisensee for his laughter and kind heart. She said Weisensee and Boyd were childhood friends. She said both boys got in trouble as juveniles. And as far as she knows, her cousin may have been living with or at least staying at Boyd's house regularly. But, said Weisensee was doing good.
"I told him you're finally getting your head on straight you got a job, it's your time," said Mace.
That time though, was cut short. The victim's childhood friend is now charged with his murder and ordered to be held on a $250-thousand bond. Emanual Boyd is due back in court on Tuesday.
"If you're going to hang out with people on a regular basis and things like that, make sure they are the right people," said Mace.
Detectives are still investigating to determine what lead up to the shooting.
Police are familiar with the address where this shooting happened. Back in 2017, they executed a search warrant. Information gathered from that raid, lead to the arrest of Robert Boyd, who neighbors say is this murder suspect's father. Robert Boyd was charged at the time with sex-related crimes involving minors, including the alleged rape of a 17-year old girl.
The home was also involved in a fire a few years ago.
The flames damaged the home, and a wood-burning stove was to blame.
