A mother and daughter from Poland Township face charges after police say they were harboring a seventeen-year-old girl who ran away from her Austintown home on New Year's Eve.

Police arrested 72-year-old Judith Forney and 35-year-old Heather Strojny on Saturday on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obstructing official business.

According to a police report, officers went to Forney's James Street home on January 26 after learning that the teen who was reported missing on New Year's Day was there.

Police said when the teen spotted the officer, she jumped out of a window in the back of the home along with another teen who was trying to help her escape.

Another officer was waiting in a cruiser Luteran Lane behind the home, and both teens were captured.

Forney and Strojny told police they didn't know that the teen was still considered to be a runaway and were letting her stay with them until she could return home. However, police say an officer was at the home two days earlier looking for the girl, so the women knew the teen was still considered a runaway.

After investigating further township, police charged Forney and Strojny on Friday.

Both women are free on bond after entering not guilty pleas to the charges when they were arraigned in Struthers Municipal Court on Monday.

Another court hearing is set for March 4.
