A Columbiana woman has been indicted on two counts alleging theft of public funds.

According to the release, Melissa Brennen faces felony charges of tampering with records and theft in office.

Brennen is a former County employee.

The release says County Engineer Bert Dawson found irregularities in a cash account withing his tax map office in Lisbon in late 2019.

Dawson reported the findings to the Sheriff and the Prosecutor's Office began an investigation into the incident.

According to the release, a 10-day investigation from the office was given to the Auditor of State for a forensic accounting.

The State Auditor completed the probe on January 6th and presented the case to the Grand Jury.

Brennen is scheduled to be arraigned on January 30th.
