Police find Campbell assault suspect who walked away from hospital

Police have found the man they say managed to walk away from the hospital after being charged with domestic violence following an incident in Campbell on New Year's Eve.
Jamar R. Grove, 24, was charged with felonious assault and domestic violence, along with his girlfriend, Champagne Bailey, 21, after a fight between the two in their Kendall Avenue apartment.
When police arrived on the scene, Bailey was outside with bloodstains on her face and clothing. Bailey told police she had been cut with a knife by her boyfriend, Grove, who had left. Three juveniles, including one as young as two, were inside the apartment.
Police found Grove nearby on Almasy Drive, where he was also bleeding.
According to the report, both Grove and Bailey told police they had been arguing over cleaning, but both gave different versions of who started the fight. At some point during the struggle, both say they were cut with a knife, although the knife could not be found, and it could not be determined who started the fight.
In domestic cases where it isn't clear who started the fight, it is common for both parties to be charged.
Bailey was put in handcuffs and taken into custody, but Grove was taken to the hospital to get checked for his injuries. According to the report, a police hold was supposed to be placed on Grove so that he could be arrested after he received medical attention.
When a patrol officer went to St. Elizabeth's to take Grove into custody, he was told Grove had been taken for x-rays. After waiting for about 15 minutes, the officer asked hospital staff where Grove was but was told he'd been checked out, needed no further medical care, and had left.
