Youngstown pug finds new home after jaw surgery
A pug who underwent emergency surgery for a broken jaw in a suspected case of animal abuse has found a new home.
The dog named Mr. Wrinkles is now with a foster family and is expected to be adopted once it's determined that he won't need any further medical care.
Animal activist Jason Cooke says Mr. Wrinkles is doing well in his new home, where there are two other rescue pugs.
Cooke gained custody of Mr. Wrinkles after he was found by agents from Animal Charity outside a house on Elbertus Avenue in Youngstown on December 13.
The pug had a broken jaw and required emergency surgery to remove the damaged portion.
The dog's owner, who is not suspected of having caused the injuries to the animal, initially told agents she did not want to sign her dog over to Animal Charity but eventually agreed to sign the dog over to Cooke, who is now facilitating the adoption.
The owner believes someone with violent tendencies may have caused the injuries to the dog.
By law, Animal Charity cannot seize an animal from its lawful owner unless they are believed to have caused the animal harm.
That agency is still investigating who may have caused Mr. Wrinkles' injuries and will prosecute should they get enough information to do so.
