A Portage County judge set bond at $50,000 for the 18-year-old accused of leading a trooper on a high-speed chase on the Ohio Turnpike and into Lordstown on Sunday.

Kyler Kinlen, 18, of Milford, Pennsylvania, appeared in Portage County Municipal Court on Monday to answer to charges of fleeing and alluding, which is a felony, and two misdemeanor charges of reckless operation and driving without a license.

The judge ordered Kinlen to take a drug test, which quickly revealed he had THC in his system.

She shared stern words with him before issuing bond.

"The prosecutor is ordering $50,000 cash surety bond, and you know what, you deserve every dime of that," Judge Barbara Oswick said. "God knows how many people you could have killed with your behavior."

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Kinlen was driving at a high rate of speed at around 8:30 a.m. Sunday while traveling eastbound through Portage County, just past the Patrol's Hiram Post.

"I attempted to gain on him and pace him, and I was narrating on my video, he's going 99, 100 miles per hour," Sgt. William Lee said, with the Hiram Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Lee says his cruiser got up to 153 miles per hour with the other car still ahead of him.

He says Kinlen was in the left-hand lane and move to the far right-hand lane from time to time. At one point, Lee says Kinlen almost lost control when trying to get off at the Warren exit on the Turnpike.

Kinlen continued before taking the Lordstown exit, where he crashed through the toll gate, then ran two red lights before crashing into a stop sign.

"He stated he had a warrant out of Michigan for assaulting another law enforcement officer, and he thought he was going to jail for that, and plus he didn't have a driver's license," Lee said.

Officers found drug paraphernalia and marijuana in the vehicle. Kinlen's girlfriend, a passenger in the car, claimed ownership of the items. Kendra M. Buers, 19, is facing drug possession charges. Kinlen told the Patrol that she was pregnant.

Kinlen is due back in court Friday for a preliminary hearing.
