The J. M. Smucker Company is recalling some of its Special Kitty wet, canned cat food due to health concerns.

The company says it believes the ingredients don't meet the company's quality and safety standards and could cause nausea with excessive salivation, diarrhea or vomiting to more severe symptoms including difficulty walking, seizures and, in extreme situations, death.

The company encourages pet owners to contact their cat's veterinarian immediately if their cat is displaying any of these symptoms.

Single cans of Special Kitty Mixed Grill Dinner Pate is being recalled, in addition to cans of the product sold in variety packs.

If pet owners have any of the products below, Smuckers says they should stop feeding it to their cats and throw it out.

Thee products are sold in grocery stores nationwide and online. No other Special Kitty products are impacted by the recall.

The investigation indicates that the recalled product appears to have been manufactured during a single day. Smuckers says it is continuing to investigate.

People with product questions should call 888-569-6767 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
