Case against former Sharon police officer sent to higher court
The case of one of two former Sharon police officers accused of falsifying documents and lying about the theft of a weapon has been transferred to a higher court for trial.
During a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Magisterial Judge Dennis Songer found enough evidence to send charges against 25-year-old Kaillie Marshal for further consideration by Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
Marshall, who in 2017 became the first woman sworn-in as a Sharon Police officer in two decades, is charged with unlawful duplication, and computer trespass, unsworn falsification, and assault.
Marshall's co-defendant, 31-old Matthew Paul Lehman, is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Songer on December 10 for a hearing on charges of obstruction and falsification.
Lehman is accused of falsifying police reports to the Sharon Police Department concerning the theft of his issued service weapon and duty belt.
Marshall is accused of accessing the Sharon police department's visual alert report and search warrants concerning the theft of Lehman's service weapon.
According to the Mercer County District Attorney's office, Marshall is accused of accessing the Sharon police department computer system 11 times without authorization.
Officials say that Marshall printed a theft report and documents related to the stolen weapon and belt. Marshall is then accused of showing the reports to Lehman.
At the time of the alleged incidents, Lehman and Marshall lived with each other.
According to investigators, Marshall intentionally misled a public servant who was investigating the theft. Marshall allegedly lied to the public servant about being at Lehman's house at the time his weapon and duty belt were stolen.
Lehman's service weapon was recovered, but the investigation into the actual theft is still ongoing.
Marshall is scheduled for arraignment before Judge John Reed on January 14.
