Youngstown School Board member Dario Hunter has qualified for official recognition from the national Green Party as a 2020 presidential candidate.
In doing so, Hunter became the first candidate to do so through the Green Party's small donation route.
To become recognized by the Green Party candidates must receive signatures of support from party members and must raise $5,000 in campaign funds from at least five different states or obtain 100 donations of at least $10.
"The fact that we qualified through the small donation route, which requires more donors, demonstrates the broad support for our campaign. It also demonstrates our support from everyday Americans who are most in need of the Green Party's solutions to economic inequality," Hunter said.
Hunter is currently leading the Green Party candidates in supporters, more than doubling his closest competitor according to the Federal Election Commission.
