This past fall, Governor John Kasich signed a new law welcoming four-legged friends to join us at outside bars and restaurants.
Now that the weather is nice, here is a reminder of what you need to know to have your dog tag along.

The number of restaurants and bars allowing four-legged friends on their patios and decks is growing.

Less than a mile from the Austintown Dog Park, The Manor Bar and Restaurant on State Route 46 is among them.

"We've got food set out for them, and we're close to Austintown Park and the dog park so it's just a nice place to stop and you can get a bite to eat, and you can bring your dog," said head chef at The Manor Restaurant and Bar Joel Petefish.

Ohio law requires bars and restaurants that choose to allow dogs to specify how the animals will be controlled, such as requiring leashes. Dogs also can’t walk through the indoor portion of the restaurant, so the outside patio or deck needs to have its own entrance. And all dogs need to be vaccinated appropriately.

At V2, in downtown Youngstown, Courtney Lesure of Niles sat outside with her dog Marley and said she'd like to see more Valley bars and restaurants welcome the idea and she believes they should also offer a doggie menu.

"In Pittsburgh they do, and that's awesome because she needs something to eat too," laughed Lesure.
