Youngstown Police Detective-Sergeant Donald Scott is retiring after 30 years at the Youngstown Police Department and was presented with a plaque for his selfless service by Youngstown Police Chief Robin Lees. 

A retirement party was also held in his honor.

Detective-Sergeant Scott most recently served as the commander of YPD's crime scene unit, overseeing both the records room and evidence room.  Scott also worked as a detective to investigate crimes against persons that included homicide and crimes against property and everything in between.

During his career, Scott was also honored with a Silver Star for Bravery for a shootout on the Northside.  The award was presented by the National Association of Chiefs of Police.

Detective-Sergeant Scott served in the U.S. Army and worked as a federal law enforcement officer as well.  He retired as an Army Lieutenant Colonel and served on temporary duty in Afghanistan.

While working for the Youngstown Police Department, Scott worked on and received his U.S. Supreme Court law license.

President Barack Obama also honored Scott with a certificate of appreciation for honorable service.

Scott tells 21 News now that he's retired he plans to work on getting his doctorate.
