NOTE: This updates a previous story that incorrectly reported that bail bond agent Donald Allgood was arrested by police.

A bail bond agent is in the Trumbull County Jail after he allegedly shot out the tire of a car while trying to stop a woman he was trying to take into custody.

Warren police became involved after Trumbull County 9-1-1 got a call about a disturbance outside the former Sparkle Market in the Trumbull Plaza on Parkman Road at around 4 pm Thursday.

The next call to 911 was from bail bond agent Stephan Simpson who said he shot out the tire of a car being driven by a woman he was trying to apprehend.

According to the police report, a witness saw the driver of a car fire a shot at a Ford Escape that had just accelerated toward another man who was trying to block the SUV from leaving.

Even though the shot flattened the tire of the Escape, the SUV drove away to nearby Solar Street NW where a witness said the female driver jumped out and ran away.

Simpson told a dispatcher he was going the Warren police station to report the incident. Officers ended up charging Simpson with discharging firearms inside city limits.

When Simpson appears in Warren Municipal Court, he'll also be arraigned for failing to pay a fine for an earlier seat belt violation.

The woman the two bondsmen were trying to apprehend is 30-year-old Melanie Walker of Warren.

Trumbull County Drug Court issued a warrant for her arrest after she failed to appear for a hearing on previous drug charges.

According to the police report, Simpson was employed by Around the Clock Bail Bonds.  However, Around the Clock owner Kathy Sanky tells 21 News that she fired Simpson in February 2019 and doesn't know why one of her agents, Donald Allgood was with Simpson at the time of the incident.

According to state records, Simpson's bail bond license is valid until February 2020.
