A change in the structure of Liberty Mutual offices in New Castle will lead to layoffs this spring.

A company spokesperson, Glenn Greenberg, said Liberty Mutual currently has two separate call centers, as well as a central billing office.

Beginning in May, the company plans to close its central billing office, eliminating 68 employee positions.

Also, the call centers are being transformed into "virtual centers" where employees will transition to working from home.

Of the 420 call center employees, the majority will transition to working from home. However, an additional 68 employee positions will be eliminated.

The transition, including the layoffs, is expected to take place beginning in May and finalizing in October.

A third party partner is expected to handle the company's billing unit, as well as some of the call volume.
